Ronald McDonald House Houston
 Accepting New Families
Dear Friends,

I am happy to announce that we are finally accepting new families into
Ronald McDonald House Houston’s Holcombe House. We are celebrating!  On September 14, we opened our waitlist, and as of September 21, we began welcoming new families into our home.

Six months ago, due to the prevalence of the Coronavirus in Houston, we temporarily stopped taking in new families at Holcombe House. As it has been for everyone, each day has been a journey. Despite the challenges and daily changes, we continued to serve families and their children not only at Holcombe House but also at Texas Children’s Hospital, Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital and MD Anderson Children's Cancer Hospital.

There are many people to thank who helped us reach this milestone. To our board and staff, your commitment, love and vigilance led us to today. To our many loyal volunteers, meal groups, and wonderful donors, your continued generosity and your “presence” helped our families feel strong and safe.

It’s because of you that we have been able to continue our mission, providing a home away from home for families of critically ill children who are seeking medical treatment in our own Texas Medical Center.

This week starts a new chapter for the Ronald McDonald House family. Thank you for standing by and supporting us every day. You are making a difference.

Sincerely,
Cristina Vetrano
Chief Executive Officer
Mission Moment
Donor Spotlight: American Payroll Association
The American Payroll Association provided dinner and also passed out laundry baskets full of pantry goods and fun activities, to all of the families at Holcombe House last month.

The APA has been coming to the house since
2013, providing an annual meal/activity to the
residents of Holcombe.

Here’s How You Can Help
It’s As Easy As A Few Clicks

We need your support to replenish our supplies for our families staying in the House and the hospitals.

Our shopping list was updated TODAY!
Everything listed on our wishlist is exactly what we need. Deliveries come directly to Holcombe House.

Why Your Support Makes A Huge Difference
In March, almost 190 days ago, the emerging “new normal” caused by the presence of the Coronavirus in our community triggered RMH Houston to rethink our daily protocol. Keeping families safe and healthy, especially children who are immune compromised, has and always will be our first priority. For the last six months, we adjusted and we continued to serve our families at Holcombe House, Texas Children’s Hospital, Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital and MD Anderson and we did so with pride and excellence. We made this commitment:

Even during the pandemic, a child with a life-threatening illness cannot put their medical treatment on pause.

Since March, 5,170 meals were delivered by 106 loving meal volunteer groups. Hundreds of generous Amazon packages arrived including pantry foods, detergent, diapers and more. We could feel the love, even though we could not hug our wonderful supporters.

RMH Houston will soon be bustling with even more children, siblings and parents not to mention returning volunteers and meal groups. Each family will have a soft bed in a private room, transportation to and from the hospitals and grocery stores, laundry facilities, and of course meals and activities. Much like a House with a big family, we will be here to support families through their child’s health journey.

Every gift of every amount supports parents and their critically ill children every day, and ensures the continuation of our RMH Houston mission.

Thank you.

Remembering Don Mullins
Mullins' proudest achievement was his involvement in founding Ronald McDonald House Houston.

In the 1970s, Don lost his young son, Troy, following a hard-fought battle with lymphoma. Troy was being treated at Texas Children’s Hospital, where Don served on the board of trustees. Throughout Troy’s treatment, Don and his family would spend day-in and day-out at Texas Children’s Hospital.
