Thank you for caring about our families' well-being. For the safety of our families, we would like to share an important update with you regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus) prevention.
Mission Moment
From one of our kids at MDA: Eleven year-old Angelica is fighting cancer and is fragile. She's been upset and confided in our staff that she's not fearful of what she's dealing with but scared that she will "catch Coronavirus." Our team was there to reassure her and console her.
We are in daily contact and are following the recommendations/guidance of the City of Houston Health Dept., Center for Disease Control (CDC), and our Hospital partners; Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital, Texas Children's Hospital and M.D.Anderson Children's Cancer Hospital.
Our continued line of defense/caution is to eliminate as much risk as possible. For us it begins with limiting the exposure of our families to groups, communal spaces, and to observe extra efforts with individual and organizational sanitation. Hence, as you know, we have halted our volunteer, volunteer group activities, field trips, etc., for the next few weeks from use at all of our locations.
Our hospital operations are in close coordination and compliance with all new requirements published by the hospitals pertaining to visitors and cleanliness. Each hospital has screening of visitors and have elevated requirements for sanitation. All three hospitals very much need our teams and they appreciate our work. At Holcombe House we are working shifts with the use of our interns and staff. Work, meal, and shift plans, are being developed for the next 30 days.
In the meantime, if you would like to get involved, please consider the following options:
1. Since all meal group volunteer activities have also been cancelled, help us stock up on
staple groceries so families can cook for themselves/snack while at the hospital.
