Long thermocouple extension wires are expensive and prone to errors from corrosion and noise. A better approach for refinery hydrocracker upgrades is installing DIN rail temperature transmitters like the THZ3 closer to the process and using shielded twisted pair wiring back to the DCS. The THZ3 is highly accurate, repeatable, and Class I Div 2/Zone 2 approved. If your control system supports HART, you can further cut costs by connecting two sensors per transmitter and using HART variables for multiple readings.
